Someone was looking for an easy way to switch Ableton Live Preferences.cfg files for multiple midi configurations, so I was bored and decided to make it happen… It’s fairly simple to setup, just carefully follow the instructions.

Pref switcher for 8.0.4 on Windows XP

Cyber-Wing

April 7th, 2009

I’m currently working on sound design for “Cyber-Wing,” a 3D Action RTS game by Martian Arctic Games.

The game is currently in early stages of development, and a closed beta should be starting up here in a few weeks.

I’ll be sure to post when my audio portion of the project is complete and fully implemented.

Porter

July 24th, 2008

I recently designed sound effects for a short film called Porter.
You can watch it here.

My Favorite Freeware Applications

October 19th, 2007

I’ve used a lot a freeware windows applications over the years and quite a hefty amount of it has been disposable. For some of my basic needs I have been pretty confident with the following applications ever since using them. If you can make a recommendation of something better than listed here, I would love to hear your suggestions! (BTW all are windows applications, but some are multi platform)

  • Audio Player Foobar2000
    • A very solid light weight audio player. It doesn’t try to be anything else.
  • Multimedia Player VideoLAN VLC Media Player
    • Plays just about any media you could think of right off the bat. Great for watching DVDs.
  • Image Manipulation GIMPshop
    • This is a variant of GIMP that tries to capture the layout and feel of Photoshop for those who are already too used to the giant that is… It can be a bit fidgety at times, but it gets the job done.
  • Color Recognition ColorCop
    • A great little tool for web developers and graphic artists that allows you to grab colors off your screen and get readings in various modes such as RGB float, Hexadecimal and many more.
  • PDF Reader Foxit Reader
    • A great lightweight PDF reader, enough said.
  • FTP Client FileZilla
    • A very solid FTP client.
  • CD/DVD Burning Deep Burner
    • If you hate the candy coated look of Roxio…
  • Shell Integrated ISO Creator/Burner ISO Recorder
    • Best minimal ISO tool in teh world! Just a right click away from making or burning an ISO.
  • CD Ripping CDex
    • I’m fairly new to this application, but so far so good. It seems to be as uncrippled as you get for freeware CD rippers. It does not have any conversion (re-encoding) tools unfortunately.
  • Web Browser Firefox + Adblock Plus
    • The best browser period combined with the best ad blocking out there. My only complaint would be the high memory usage and/or memory leak. One way to circumvent this is the addition of the config.trim_on_minimize entry.

New Sound Design Project

September 16th, 2007

I was recently invited to rejoin the Clancore Design Group in efforts to steer their sound design and audio implementation needs in the right direction. They are currently working on an all original game titled “Mechnexus: Projection of Force.” I have decided to take up the offer as I have nothing sound design related going on at the moment, other than my mod for Crysis that will get off it’s feet in the future, and my personal musical endeavors…

Got a lot of old computer hardware laying around?

September 2nd, 2007

I have a lot of old computer hardware laying around sitting in boxes, and I thought it would be a cool idea to display them on my wall. I first thought of nailing them through the holes usually in most PC hardware to an extremely large cork board, but then I thought of shadow boxes!

Shadow boxes come in many sizes and can be bought at pretty much any arts and crafts store. I bought a 9×11″ shadow box at Garden Ridge Pottery for $12(USD) and you can place pretty much any single slot PCI or AGP card in it with ease. (Sorry PCI/AT cards don’t fit)

I’m going to eventually get more and cover my entire wall with old PC hardware, but for right now this will have to do.

nVidia Winfast 6600gt 128mb GPU in a shadowbox.

The Sun Is Trying To Kill Me

June 20th, 2007

I don’t normally look up into the sun, but today I was in Galveston and couldn’t help but notice a big ass halo around it! I’ve never seen one of these in my life, so I decided to take a shot my cellphone…

Icebow

Supposedly this is called an Icebow, as rain was not present. For more information go here.
